Salt Creek
Only a 50 min drive from our cottages Salt Creek is one of our most frequently visited areas for natural beauty and diverse recreational opportunities. Known for its tide pools, rare sandy beach within the straights of Juan De Fuca, beginners surfing spot, and expansive views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Visitors can enjoy hiking along well-maintained trails, discovering vibrant marine life in the tide pools, and taking in breathtaking vistas of the surrounding ocean and mountains. Salt Creek is our favorite day trip spot to explore the WWII bunkers, lay out on the beach, tide pool & make family memories.

Second Beach, La Push: A Coastal Gem with Stunning Tide pools
If you’re seeking a breathtaking coastal experience, make sure to visit Second Beach in La Push . This hidden gem is famous for its brilliant tide pools, teeming with marine life. The variety of sea creatures you’ll encounter is simply awe-inspiring, with vibrant colors that make the whole scene feel like a painting. Located about a two-hour drive from the Cottages, Second Beach is accessible via a less-than-a-mile hike through lush forest from the parking lot. Due to its short and scenic trail, this spot is a favorite for backpackers looking to camp overnight right on the beach.

Second Beach is a treasure trove of marine life, with tide pools that brim with sea stars, anemones, mussels, and other fascinating creatures. The concentration of sea stars here is incredible—bright orange ones alongside varying shades of purple, all clustered together in a dazzling display. It’s a rare and wonderful sight, especially for those who are usually thrilled to spot just a few sea stars during a beach outing.

A Scenic Stop on the Way Home

Lake Crescent
To break up your drive home, stop at Lake Crescent. This crystal-clear lake is the perfect spot to stretch your legs and take in some more natural beauty. You can enjoy a short hike to the picturesque Marymere Falls, grab a bite to eat, or simply relax by the water. On a hot day, the lake’s deep, blue waters are ideal for a refreshing swim—just jump right off the dock at Lake Crescent Lodge!

The Railroad Spruce Trail offers an incredible view of Lake Crescent, showing just how quickly the lake plunges into its deep blue depths.

Stay for the Sunset or Head Home early with a Treat
On clear nights, consider staying until sunset. The Washington coast is renowned for its dramatic rock formations, which provide a stunning backdrop as the sun dips below the horizon. During summer at second beach witness a rare sunset through a natural rock bridge.

And no trip would be complete without a sweet treat! Stop by Granny’s for soft-serve ice cream or head to Port Angeles for a scoop at Wellies Ice Cream. It’s the perfect way to end a perfect day.
